Senegal

A month of language, generosity, peanuts, mangoes, and a little bit of Senegal carried home.

Senegal is a West African country bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Mauritania to the north, Guinea-Bissau to the south and Mali to the east. They have very tasty peanuts and mangoes. After spending a month there, peanuts and mangoes just aren’t the same. Of course, my taste buds weren’t the only thing affected by my time there.

I spent a month in Senegal, mostly in Dakar, through a study abroad program organized by Laura Fyfe and George Mason University’s Center for Global Education. Our group was composed of 11 undergraduate and graduate students, one nurse, one author and professor, and our amazing coordinator, Laura.

No matter what we were expecting at the start of our journey, I know that each of us brought back a little bit of Senegal when we returned home.
